Sarah Welfare is our workplace practice adviser. She has fifteen years’ experience of researching and writing about workplace policy and practice. Her areas of expertise include reward and benefits (particularly equal pay practice), employment relations, work organisation and HR benchmarking.
In 2014 she set up Work and Pay Research, providing independent research, analysis and writing on workplace issues. Previously, she was HR practice editor at leading online HR service XpertHR, publishing practical resources for HR professionals and original research based on large-scale employer surveys.
Prior to that, she was Employment Policy Director for the Equal Opportunities Commission (now the Equality and Human Rights Commission) where she led the Commission’s partnership work on equal pay reviews with the private sector. She has also worked in policy and research roles for the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union and the CBI. From 2002-06 she was an elected councillor in the London Borough of Southwark.
She has a MA (distinction) from the University of Nottingham and a BA in History from the University of Cambridge.
